NAPOLI COFFEE CAPSULE

Ispirazione Napoli pays tribute to the short, strong and dark espressos of this southern Italian coastal city – a thing of grit and beauty. It’s a velvety, creamy cup with an extremely thick body and a kiss of pleasant bitterness in its aftertaste.

It takes real skill to roast to the intensity they do in Naples. As we push coffee further into to such extreme roasting degrees, a split-second could mean the difference between a beautiful, intense roast and a carbonized failure. This is why we started with Robusta beans that are particularly dense and rich in oils, allowing us to develop it for longer before it burns away. A fine grind helps bringing out the extremely thick body and delicious bitter notes that linger in its aftertaste.

We created Ispirazione Napoli as a blend of Robusta from Uganda touched with Arabica from South America. We carefully selected coffees that could stand up to the intense roasting this blend calls for – bold coffees that would develop the gritty yet beautiful aromas, tastes, and textures that reflect Naples’ deep-rooted coffee history and traditions.

VENEZIA COFFEE CAPSULE

Ispirazione Venezia is a mellow, rounded and delicately aromatic coffee that will remind you of coffee beans fresh out of the roaster – taking you back in time to the early days of Italy’s coffee trade. Its lighter roast keeps the delicate aromas intensely present while developing a thick body. In Venezia you can’t miss the distinct cereal fragrance and those notes of sweet caramel that we all find so reassuring.

This northern trade city is not just skilled in blending, but in roasting too. The coffee roasting tends to be lighter in the north of the country. That’s why we gave the coffees in Ispirazione Venezia a medium roast that lands lighter than what you’ll find in the south but is still remaining dark enough. It gives Ispirazione Venezia that rounded mouthfeel and mellowed acidity with just a hint of bitterness.

We wanted to honor this distinct heritage by crafting the Ispirazione Venezia. One of Italy’s biggest coffee imports is Brazilian Arabica, so our experts began here. We then blended it with reputable, high-grown Arabicas from Colombia for its malty and fruity profile that develops beautifully during roasting, finalizing it all with a touch of African washed Robusta for an extra zing. These elements come together as a delicate and round cup, true to the Venetian tradition.

ROMA COFFEE CAPSULE

From the days of Ancient Rome, a great many cultures passed through this metropolis. Different layers of civilization towering up to the present day when Modern Rome adds its layer of elegance to the rich history of the city. Ispirazione Roma, too, is beautifully complex. There’s a subtle balance between the strength of the roastiness, the depth of the woodsy, cereal notes, and the finesse of the acidity and elegant aromatics.

Surprisingly light roast for an intense coffee, balancing deep, roasted notes with a hint of acidity that gives this coffee its elegance. The different beans that compose the blend are roasted separately, with the Brazilian portion serving as a deeply roasted base, topped with a lightly roasted Mexican Arabica for its delicate aromatics. A fine grind preserves the coffee’s aromatic finesse and keeps Ispirazione Roma powerful yet mild; a true testimonial to Rome’s rich story of contrasts.

This blend starts with a balanced, cereal base of Natural Arabicas from the Brazilian plateaus, combined with a touch of Robusta for a lightly woody note. Arabicas from southeast Mexico provide the outline for this blend’s fine aromatics. This renowned region benefits from a unique terroir: Rich volcanic soils exposed to rain and populated by forests that lend shade and coolness to the coffee trees.

KAZAAR COFFEE CAPSULE

You’ll taste the audacious bitterness and peppery notes leaping out through the thick syrupy body. Together the Arabica and Robusta balance each other out in this espresso. It reflects both the Palermo coastal lifestyle and its rich history. You can sit back in the sun and enjoy your Kazaar on the terrace, with everything from the food on your plate to the architecture surrounding you whispering the histories of all who’ve passed through Palermo.

We split roast the coffees to bring out distinct qualities of each coffee in the Kazaar blend. Most of the Arabica and Robusta get an intense roast to develop their bitterness and body. We give the unwashed Robusta a shorter and lighter roast to bring out some of the finer aromatic notes. Kazaar ’s roast style reflects the Arab and African influence you see across southern Italy’s dark and intense coffees.

We picked four bold coffees to pay homage to this history. Traditionally you’d look only to unwashed Robusta to bring brute strength. And that’s what you’ll find dominating the coffee blends of southern Italy. But our washed Robusta is a rare find that balances out the Kazaar coffee pod with its clean taste and creamy texture. The other coffees are Latin American Arabicas that lend a natural sweetness to Kazaar.

It’s a profile worthy of an ambassador – a coffee that explains Italians’ passion for coffee and makes sense of why it’s ingrained in daily life. Extracted to the classic 25 ml, you’ll soon see how right the Italians are – this drop of deliciousness shows how less can truly be more.

Split roasting means you can taste what each coffee brings to the cup. The long-roasted Robusta coffee gives Ispirazione Ristretto its body, its roastiness, and its cocoa bitterness. Putting the Arabica coffees through a quick roast keeps their bright acidity and fruity notes alive and gives Ispirazione Ristretto Italiano more in the cup. We celebrate Italy’s rich history of master blenders and roasters in Ispirazione Ristretto.

Nespresso experts surveyed the best local bars and roasters in Italy and drew inspiration from their tasting experiences to craft a sophisticated recipe that combines Arabicas and Robustas coming for all three producing continents. Brazilian Arabicas serve as a neutral base that is spiced with a dash of high quality Robusta from South India. Finally, the best of South American and East African Arabicas add a hint of a crisp fruit note, masterfully finishing the Ristretto.

ARPEGGIO COFFEE CAPSULE

Ispirazione Arpeggio is dense and creamy with bold roasty and cocoa notes. The crema gives it a creamy, velvety texture that is irresistible. You might even call it high art.

We crafted Ispirazione Arpeggio to pay tribute to the culture of this city which draws from the light North to the dark South. An intense roast of the coffee beans develops the distinct characteristics of each of Ispirazione Arpeggio’s coffees. It may be a blend, but it seeks to let each coffee shine in the cup. The malty aroma turns into the cocoa notes that give this espresso its gravitas.

Ispirazione Arpeggio is an intense, pure Arabica blend structured on the back of a Costa Rican coffee. By nature a coffee of malted notes, this Costa Rican turns cocoa-like in reaction to deep roasting, a characteristic that ultimately defines the blend. It has a remarkable creamy, velvety texture, the result of a very finely calibrated grind and dosage. Launched in 1993 as Arpeggio, it remains a customer favourite repeatedly winning consumer taste surveys.

GENOVA LIVANTO COFFEE CAPSULE

Ispirazione Genova Livanto is a smooth, rounded and delicately aromatic coffee. Its lighter roast develops the smooth and full body and keeps the finer aromas present. You’ll catch a toasted cereal fragrance and a sweet caramel note.

The coffee roasting tends to be lighter in the north of the country. That’s why we gave the coffees in Ispirazione Genova Livanto a medium roast that lands lighter than what you’ll find in the south but is still dark enough to develop those caramel and toasted cereal notes. It gives Ispirazione Genova Livanto that rounded mouthfeel and keeps its delicate acidity intact.

True to the character of northern Italian coffee Ispirazione Genova Livanto is an Arabica-centric blend with a complexity of tastes. We began with Brazilian Arabica – an approachable, mellow coffee. Into this base we blended reputable, high-grown Arabicas from Central and South America with malty and fruit profiles that develop beautifully during roasting. We chose them because they bring the delicate aromas and rounded taste northern Italian coffee is known for.

ARPEGGIO DECAFFEINATO COFFEE CAPSULE

Ispirazione Arpeggio Decaffeinato is as dense and creamy as the no decaffeinated version. Decaffeination doesn’t diminish the bold roasty and cocoa notes. The crema gives it a creamy, velvety texture that is irresistible.

A dark and deep roast of the Brazil and Costa Rica really pushes the intensity of those cocoa notes. We gave the fruitier coffees a lighter roast for balance in this decaf coffee pod. It's an homage to the complexity of Florence’s roast style. It gives this espresso dolce its gravitas and its class.

Ispirazione Arpeggio Decaffeinato is a blend of decaffeinated Latin American Arabicas centered around an inherently malty Costa Rican coffee. All the other coffees used are also decaffeinated Arabica, and that unified taste is as magnetic as Florence during the Renaissance.

Volluto Decaffeinato is split roasted to bring out the unique characteristics of each coffee. A short roast unfolds the sweet biscuit notes of the Brazilian Arabica. The finer fruit aromatics you taste from the Colombian Arabica coffee are developed in its longer light roast.

Just as with the original, Volluto Decaffeinato is a blend of pure Arabicas from Latin America. The gentle decaffeination process removes the caffeine naturally - but you won’t get any dramatic change in character. We still play with all the parameters of blend, roast and grind to get Volluto Decaffeinato to match the original Volluto Arabica coffee blend as closely as possible.

INDONESIA COFFEE CAPSULE

It’s the coffee production, the unique coffee farming methods, that make this a classic Indonesia coffee - Master Origin Indonesia wet-hulled Arabica has a thick and rich, velvety body. It’s wild in its cured tobacco notes and you’ll get whiffs of tropical woody aromas.

The Sumatran coffee farmers let the pulped beans sit overnight to ferment before they rinse the skin clean and let the beans dry for a day. Then they hull of the parchment so the head and bouts of sunshine can dry the beans quickly. The rapid drying method creates that one-of-a-kind Indonesian coffee taste. Master Origin Indonesia contains only Fair Trade Indonesian Arabica processed in this unique way.

INDIA COFFEE CAPSULE

Master Origin India with Robusta Monsoon owes its wild taste to the unique monsooning process. When the coffee beans spend months face to the wind, they develop a distinct woody, savory, spicy taste - as thick and lingering as sea mist. A powerful cup. Using Robusta along with the Arabica coffee really gives it that heavy, syrupy body.

We split roast this coffee with a medium and a slightly shorter roast. This coffee roasting process on this Arabica Robusta blend keeps the distinct Arabica and Robusta characteristics alive.

The India coffees with Robusta Monsoon are a mix of plantation Arabica coffee and Robusta Monsoon - both grown in India’s southern highlands. Traditionally the Monsoon coffee process is only done on Arabica coffee but monsooning Robusta gives India with Robusta Monsoon even more body and brings in tempered woody notes. But monsooning calls for diligence after the coffee harvest - up to three months of regularly raking the beans to ensure only the best aromas develop in the coffee.

ETHIOPIA COFFEE CAPSULE

The traditional natural process adds a unique taste - rich, and incredibly aromatic. In Master Origin Ethiopia with dry processed Arabica you’ll catch anything from the warming aroma of ripe fruit to delicate orange blossom notes.

A light and short roast keeps the more delicate notes alive and singing through the wilder, heavier aromatics of this Ethiopian coffee.

All of the coffees in Master Origin Ethiopia with dry processed Arabica are Ethiopian Arabica. The signature jammy notes come from the naturally processed coffee beans. In the western highlands of Ethiopia, it’s their heritage to spread the harvested coffee cherry out across raised drying tables. The farmers here have used this traditional farming method for longer than anyone else.

NICARAGUA COFFEE CAPSULE

Master Origin Nicaragua with ‘Black-Honey’ processed Arabica is a nectarous coffee - it has a satiny smooth texture and warming sweet cereal notes. Its distinct sweetness comes from the rare Black-Honey process.

Split roasting Master Origin Nicaragua with a medium and a slightly shorter roast keeps these Nicaraguan coffees in balance.

During coffee production, the Arabica coffee cherry’s fruity outer flesh is removed and the coffee beans are spread out to dry in a thin layer. It’s just as it is with natural process coffees, except with Honey process coffee almost all the sticky mucilage is left hugging the coffee bean. With daily diligence they rake and rotate and mix these incredibly sticky coffee beans to make sure only good flavors develop.

CORTO COFFEE CAPSULE

For BARISTA CREATIONS Corto taste we took our inspiration from the dark roasts and thick textures created by the expert baristas in Spain, that is why it is easily recognizable by its raw strength and intense, roasty character. BARISTA CREATIONS Corto can punch through milk with its rich aftertaste, elegant bitterness, and a thick, textured body. When you roast any coffee, you have to work at that fine balance of temperature, roast time and bean color. But it’s even more important when you want that coffee to be in ideal harmony with milk. For BARISTA CREATIONS Corto that means split roasting the coffees for a long time in order to unleash the textures we’re looking for in a Spanish-style coffee. The long roast time where we wait for the bean to reach a dark, rich roast colour develops an alluring bitterness and that syrupy, thick body.

To create this intense, rich cup that hits a great harmony with milk, we tested plenty of different coffees from various countries of origin and we discovered that not all coffees interact well with milk. We selected a fine Ugandan Robusta to form the base of the blend. It brings the intensity, thick body and syrupy texture you expect to find in a cortado recipe.

BARISTA CREATIONS Chiaro has hardly a hint of roastiness, and almost no bitterness or acidity you can perceive. It’s all creamy caramel and sweet biscuit notes when you add milk. The baristas in Brooklyn inspired us in the way their light roast values the natural sweetness of coffee and lends a decadent smoothness to the cup when you add milk.

How you roast a coffee plays a big part in whether or not you hit that ideal harmony of coffee with milk. To develop that sweet and inviting taste of Chiaro, we split roast the blend with both splits roasting at a relatively low temperature and for a moderate amount of time - just long enough to develop the coffees’ inherent sweetness.

To find the right fit, we didn’t hold back in testing plenty of coffees from different countries of origin. We discovered that not all coffees interact well with milk or milk froth. But fine Kenyan Arabica does, and we selected it to be part of the Chiaro blend. We blended it with Indonesian Arabica from the island of Sumatra. Together, they make a decadent pair – exactly what we set our hearts on for this sweet cup made for smooth recipes with milk.

How many different blends of coffee origins are there? Countless. But not all coffees interact well with milk. So, we couldn’t leave the ideal marriage of coffees and milk to chance. Of all the origins we tried from around the world, we selected some of the finest Colombian and Ethiopian Arabicas for Scuro. The aromatic potential of these two coffees is punchy and promises a harmonious composition of tastes that land with precise balance when you add milk.

We tested lots of combinations until we discovered that to get that ideal flavor balance in Scuro with milk, we needed an extremely contrasted split roasting technique. One part of the blend gets a long and dark roast, and the other is roasted much faster and lighter.
